This piece is a Cheyenne style, elk-antler quirt or horseman's riding crop. The main handle is a select piece of elk antler brow tine with thick strap leather braided for the whip. It should be noted that the leather is not a normal three-strand braid but one that is found on many of the quirts reviewed in my research.
The wrist strap is braintan elk hide, painted red with powder paints. The beadwork is a simple design sewn with real sinew, the traditional thread used by Native peoples, using greasy yellow, sky blue and chalk white.
